Too many times we have been instructed to throw away items of value to facilitate the quick sale of real estate. It might be economically sound ‘in that moment’, but with some early planning there’s no reason why goods of value can’t be identified and economically re-distributed. Recycling is good for the environment and helpful to those in need within our community. It is also respectful of the value put on those goods by their original owner.
The traditional clearance process can also be inefficient, lack accountability and see sale or transition of real estate delayed at times with hidden costs. Prior to the ‘Make It Count’ program there was little option other than to see agents and dealers ‘selectively’ choose goods for re-sale, at times with little regard given to how these goods were identified or retrieved or how what was left might be cleared or re-cycled. The mess left at the end of this process could be such that it adds to the time taken by those who are left to clean up, a cost that is borne not by the dealers but which is instead passed on to the estate or absent property owner.
